This exhibition about children's toys and gender roles might inspire you to play – and to think. In addition to displaying children's toys from c. 1850 onwards, some of them borrowed from our visitors and some from the museum's own collection, the exhibition intends to explore what can happen when girls and boys are socialized differently. What are the consequences of one-sided, gender stereotypical, playing? Does the way we play affect the way our personalities are developed?
"Just playing..." ("Bare en lek...") is part of a larger international EU-project about gender segregated toy production, "SheCulture". Five women's museums from all over Europe have made short films dealing with the topic. These films can be viewed in the exhibition.
